Altogether now "Jingle Bells! Jingle Bells..."

With Christmas coming up fast, we kicked off the season with an awesome Christmas concert! Several of my pupils took part, all of them playing solos, from the most experienced to the most recent beginner. I was so proud of them all for getting up there! Each of them chose a carol that they knew well and liked, some of them having particular favourite carols, and all of them played really well!

After all the solos, I joined them on the stage and we all played "Jingle Bells" together. Playing together at the end of a concert is becoming a tradition of mine since I started pupil concerts. It's a great experience for everyone, as it's very different playing with others. Often it gives a lot of confidence playing with people who have a bit more experience, and can find the notes more quickly, and teaches listening skills.

After the concert we had our thank you's - in particular to my wonderful pianist! A treat for the players is always essential, and the all important refreshments, with a chance to socialise. Lots of my pupils are becoming really good friends, with violin lessons bringing together people who might not have met one another otherwise.

Several of my pupils have been bitten by the performing bug, successfully auditioning for talent shows at school, playing with carols and at school Christmas concerts. Opportunities to perform give practise more of a purpose, and pupils definitely step up the practise before a concert, taking a healthy pride in their performance.

Merry Christmas everyone - I hope all your concerts have gone as well as ours!

Slipping pegs
